  • Recipe B: 1 medium onion (~150g)

Recipe Version Locking

Why Version Locking Matters

When you add a recipe to your shopping cart, FourFork "locks" the specific version:

  • Version Major: e.g., v2
  • Version Minor: e.g., v2.3

This ensures:

  • Ingredient list doesn't change unexpectedly
  • Quantities remain consistent
  • Your shopping list stays accurate
  • You know exactly what you planned to cook

Outdated Recipe Warnings

If a recipe has been updated since you added it:

  • Warning badge appears on recipe
  • Shows your version vs current version
  • Option to update to new version
  • Option to keep your locked version

Example:

  • You added: v2.1
  • Current version: v2.3
  • Changes: Updated serving size
  • Your choice: Update cart or keep v2.1

Updating Recipe Versions

When you see an outdated recipe warning:

  1. Click "View Changes" to see what changed
  2. Decide if you want the updates
  3. Click "Update to Latest" to refresh
  4. Or keep your existing version

Benefits of updating:

  • Get recipe improvements
  • Benefit from bug fixes
  • Access new tips or notes
  • Stay current with creator's vision

Reasons to keep old version:

  • Already bought some ingredients
  • Prefer the original quantities
  • Made notes on that version
  • Planning for specific serving size

Pantry Integration

Automatic Pantry Exclusions

Mark items you already have:

  • Ingredient removed from buy list
  • Still tracked for recipe
  • Quantity reserved in pantry
  • Won't duplicate purchase

Pantry Changed Notices

If pantry quantities change:

  • Alert badge on affected ingredients
  • Shows what changed
  • Recalculates "to buy" amount
  • Prevents over or under-buying

Example:

  • Recipe needs: 500g flour
  • You marked: 200g in pantry
  • Buy amount: 300g
  • Later you use some flour for another recipe
  • Pantry now: 50g
  • New buy amount: 450g
  • Alert shows change

Smart Pantry Reservations

System reserves pantry items for specific recipes:

  • Prevents double-booking ingredients
  • Tracks what's allocated where
  • Shows available pantry balance
  • Updates when recipes removed from cart

Collapsible Recipes

Managing Long Lists
